Long lasting color that doesnt fadeI have lots of experience dying my own hair with store box hair dyes, but, you get what you pay for. They always start out looking fine but always turn brassy and faded. I saw an ad on Facebook for esalon and I thought I'd give it a try. It seemed like a good compromise between spending $100 at a salon or $10 at a store. I chose the darkest brown color available. It did a great job covering my gray roots (I'm 47 and have thick streaks of gray in front. My hair is also extremely thick.). The color didn't fade between coloring even though I waited two months to order again. The next shipment I requested a change to dark brown mahogany. It came out exactly as I expected it to...dark brown with a mahogany tint. Easy to useThis was my first time coloring my hair at home in a very long time. I found the instructions very easy to follow. I'm grateful I bought the color tools kit because it definitely helped. I loved the packaging and how everything was beautifully package and felt tailored for me. I mostly feel like this was a positive experience, but there were some negatives. It definitely took me longer to color my hair at home than at the salon. I will assume this will get easier as I color more. I also didn't like that the chemical smell was extremely intense when I washed it out in the shower. It was so harsh that it was making my eyes burn and was hard to breath. I have had the color in for three weeks and I already see a lot of my grey coming through. Normally, my grey does not come through so fast. I also have found that my hair has become extremely dry. Back to natural at lastReally impressed with the eSalon service. As much as I love my hairdresser, I have found the cost of having to have roots done every 6 weeks has become too much. I'd used a semi-permanent shop-bought dye part way through lockdown and have always resisted doing a permanent at home colour myself as find my hair ends up with too much red in it and/or can go far too dark. After filling in the online questionnaire and selecting my colour, eSalon contacted me to say they thought the shade I had chosen might be too warm so had toned it down. I did the colour last night and am really impressed. While I think it might still be slightly too warm, the result is the closest to my natural mid brunette that I have been in years (I went for a Medium Brown 20VOL with Pearl). The colour is really even throughout and all my greys (of which there were A LOT) have gone. Only reason it's not a 5* review is the smell of the 2nd bottle. Oh my days!! It was such a strong ammonia smell when I mixed it. It made my eyes water. Rich, vibrant color and excellent coverage!My white hair strands are wiry and have difficulty taking and holding color. However, my latest formula of brown, red, and copper was just right!
